Underwater Acoustic Wave Propagation

During a two-month attachment with the Underwater Robotics Research Group at Universiti Sains Malaysia (University of Science Malaysia), I created an acoustic wave propagator in Mathematica for acoustic jellyfish detection. The propagator was adapted from here. I modified the current propagator to include attenuation which captures the energy lost by an underwater sound wave when traveling across a distance. I analyzed the data collected in experiments to look for trends and to understand the underwater sound wave behavior through a jelly-like medium with different sizes. In addition, I also implemented two mathematical models (i.e., Goodman spherical model and truncated sphere model) to estimate the target strength of a sphere-like jellyfish.
